AIA Long Beach South Bay

A Chapter of the American Institute of Architects

Advocacy Committee

Our Chapter has established an Advocacy Committee which addresses local architectural and urban planning issues and stresses the importance of the involvement of architects in major design decisions.  Our major objective is to support and influence high-quality design in our communities.  The committee mirrors the efforts of the national and state AIA organizations but at a local level.

The committee participates in the following activities:

  • Keeping in contact with local governmental representatives to let them know our interests, concerns, and capabilities.
  • Tracking progress and participating in the public review processes for major private and public projects within our Chapter area.
  • Planning and participating in design charettes for public and private projects.
  • Reviewing and advocating for local public policy and legislation.
  • Attending and participating in events and presentations in order to make the Chapter more visible within our local communities.
  • Coordinating with and supporting the efforts of other organizations which share our common objectives.

The committee is always looking for new members and for opportunities to be of greater service to our communities.
