Jurors’ comments:
This project is simple, elegant, and thoughtfully detailed.  The site strategy deals well with its urban context and situation on a corner lot.  Exterior proportions work well complementing the excellent quality of natural daylighting of interior spaces.  The heights and volumes of spaces are nicely calibrated to the corresponding functions of the spaces.  It makes powerful use of indoor and outdoor relationships which is the project’s central concept.  In relationship to budget and scale, this project is beautifully executed and is most deserving of the honor award.

Jurors’ comments:
This project highlights airiness and openness with a very effective fenestration strategy.  The pushing/pulling of the volumes and masses that make up the overall massing resulted in a nicely proportioned building.  The spatial strategy was well executed. The project is exceptionally well detailed.  The details that allow the exterior blinds to integrate into the structure is very strong.  This is a handsome house.

Jurors’ comments:
This project addresses congestion issues inherent to the urban environment by moving public space to the rooftop and lifting other building masses above the ground plane to create additional nicely-scaled public environments.  It creates an extension of the city that is a comfortable space to be in.  The façade of this building is nicely designed and executed, in particular given the project’s large scale.

Jurors’ comments:
This project is compositionally strong.  It successfully utilizes a high-contrast black and white color palette, as well as troweled stucco, on the exterior.  There is a nice use of compositional cuts into the overall building mass to create private outdoor areas and separations of units.  It has a very nice quality of interior daylighting and the solution to the installation of sprinkler heads in the high volume atrium-like spaces is clever.

Jurors’ comments:
This is a very welcoming space.  The overall site planning and scale of elements within the site is thoughtfully executed and we appreciate how the roofline melds into the environment.  This project could have benefitted with the integration of more softscape and shade elements, as well as with less high-contrast photography, which renders the project a bit like a stage-set.

Jurors’ comments:
This project is a well-executed, open, and collaborative space.  It makes nice use of a large interior area and the individual workstations are well-designed and integrate nicely into the overall workspace.  The use of the exterior steel elements that wrap down from the overhang into the front landscape planter is an example of well-considered and well-placed detailing.  This is a nice example of a tenant improvement project.
